LearnVerse ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our educational platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

Information We Collect

From Parents/Guardians:

  • Email address (for account verification)
  • Name

From Children (with parental consent):

  • Username (no real names required)
  • Learning progress and achievements
  • Age/Grade level

We do NOT collect:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Precise geolocation
  • Photos or videos of children
  • Voice recordings from children

How We Use Information

  • To provide personalized educational content
  • To track learning progress
  • To award achievements and XP
  • To communicate with parents about their child's progress

Data Protection Measures

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Password Protection: All passwords are encrypted using bcrypt hashing
  • Account Lockout: Accounts are locked after 5 failed login attempts
  • Secure Sessions: JWT tokens expire after 24 hours
  • Rate Limiting: API requests are limited to prevent abuse
  • Security Headers: HTTPS with Helmet protection

Parental Rights (COPPA)

Parents have the right to:

  1. Review their child's personal information
  2. Delete their child's account and all associated data
  3. Refuse further collection of their child's information
  4. Withdraw consent at any time

Data Deletion

You can delete your child's account at any time through the app settings or by contacting us. Upon deletion:

  • Personal information is anonymized
  • Learning progress data is retained (anonymized) for service improvement
  • Account cannot be recovered after deletion

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services for educational content generation:

  • OpenAI (for AI-generated teaching content)
  • Groq (for curriculum content)

These services do NOT receive any personally identifiable information about children.
